Thyme to Cook!

Saturday was a beautiful day in New York City. I woke up early in the morning to greet the sunny and cool day. A light breeze and 75 degree weather welcomed me outdoors.

I had a delicious lunch at Momofuku Ssäm Bar (which will be written about in a later post, once I get all my notes in order) then decided to visit the Greenmarket in Union Square.

It's a farmers' market selling fresh, locally grown wares from produce to seafood to meat. The seafood is so fresh you can eat the scallops raw (the fishmonger there claims they harvested them that morning). They also sell flowers, plants, and other flora. I decided to pick up a thyme plant for $6.50. Here is it:

I figured, since I cook so much already, and the FLCB calls for thyme in so many dishes, why not just grow my own and pick it off the plant when I need it? Well, now we have it. Apparently, it is quite easy to take care of and grows fast. The vendor instructed me to cut off the tops of the stems when I needed to use some, and it would grow back within a week or so.

What's next? Tomatoes? Rosemary? Mint? Strawberries? A full-blown garden in the middle of New York City? Only thyme will tell!

  2. Your probably need to change a larger pot inorder to let it grow better.
